What happened
On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight 171 departed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, bound for London Gatwick Airport in England. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Thirty-two seconds after takeoff, at approximately 13:39 IST (08:09 UTC), the plane lost control and crashed into the student hostels of the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College. The impact site was located roughly 1.7 kilometers from the runway end.
The flight carried a total of 242 people, comprising 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Tragically, only one passenger survived the crash. On the ground, the collision resulted in 19 fatalities and left 67 individuals seriously injured.
