What happened
On July 20, 2025, at approximately 1545 CDT, a Questair Venture, registration N53TL, was involved in an accident at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The flight was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91.
During the approach to runway 9, the pilot extended the landing gear while over Fisk. The pilot reported that three green lights were illuminated on the instrument panel, indicating the gear was down. During the landing flare, the aircraft touched down on both main landing gear. As the nose of the aircraft descended, the propeller struck the runway, causing the aircraft to slide several feet before coming to rest on its nose.
The accident resulted in no injuries to the pilot or the passenger. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the engine mounts.
The investigation
A post-accident assessment determined that the nose landing gear was not actually extended at the time of touchdown. During the recovery process, the pilot attempted to extend the nose gear, but it failed to deploy. It was discovered that the circuit breaker for the nose landing gear motor had popped. After the pilot reset the circuit breaker and attempted a second extension, the nose landing gear extended and locked into place. The aircraft was subsequently moved to a hangar for further examination.
