What happened
On November 9, 2025, at approximately 12:05 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 172S, registration N5199J, was involved in an accident near Lancaster, California. The aircraft was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 for personal flight.
The pilot had received clearance from local air traffic control for a straight-in approach to runway 06. During the landing, the nosewheel dropped and the aircraft bounced upon touchdown. Although the pilot maintained control throughout the landing roll and brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway, the aircraft sustained substantial damage. There were no injuries to the pilot or passengers.
Upon taxiing to transient parking, the pilot noted difficulty turning the aircraft. After the aircraft was parked, an inspection revealed a flat nosewheel tire and ground damage to the propeller. A subsequent examination by a repair shop found substantial damage to the floorboards on both the pilot and co-pilot sides, as well as the tunnel structure located behind the firewall.
