What happened
On February 19, 2026, at approximately 09:30 EST, a Tecnam P2006T, registration N964GV, was involved in an accident near Miami, Florida. The flight, conducted under 14 CFR Part 91 for instructional purposes, departed Miami Executive Airport (TMB) for multi-engine training maneuvers, including simulated engine failures and single-engine minimum controllable airspeed demonstrations.
While the aircraft was in level flight at 2,000 feet MSL and 6 nautical miles southwest of the airport, the student pilot noticed a sudden, uncommanded roll to the left. Although corrective inputs were attempted, the aircraft became difficult to control. The flight instructor took control of the aircraft, but lateral control remained restricted. Both engines were functioning normally, and the autopilot had been disengaged.
During the flight, the instructor observed a piece of metal hanging from the left wing and suspected damage to the left aileron. After declaring an emergency with air traffic control, the crew maintained directional control using the rudder and differential engine thrust to return to TMB. The aircraft landed safely, and the crew sustained no injuries.
The investigation
A post-flight examination of the aircraft confirmed that the left wing, including the aileron assembly, sustained substantial damage.
