What happened
On a flight departing from a private airstrip in Waskada, Manitoba, a privately registered Cessna 210C, registration C-FWUX, crashed approximately 30 minutes after takeoff. The aircraft was conducting a local sightseeing flight with a pilot and three passengers on board. Shortly after the departure, fog began to move into the region. At 1317 Central Standard Time, an emergency locator transmitter signal was detected in the vicinity. Following a search operation, the wreckage was discovered 3 nautical miles north of Waskada. The impact resulted in four fatalities, with no post-crash fire reported.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the environmental conditions and the flight path of the aircraft. Investigators established that the aircraft was operating in the local area for sightseeing purposes when weather conditions deteriorated due to incoming fog. The search and recovery efforts were initiated following the activation of the emergency locator transmitter.
