A Cessna 208B carrying seven people sustained substantial damage after striking the frozen surface of Family Lake during its final approach in Manitoba.

What happened

On 4 March 2019, a Cessna 208B operated by Amik Aviation Ltd. was performing a visual flight rules (VFR) flight in Manitoba. The aircraft was traveling from Winnipeg/St. Andrews Airport toward Little Grand Rapids Airport with one pilot and six passengers on board.

As the aircraft was executing its final approach to the Little Grand Rapids Airport, it struck the frozen surface of Family Lake, which is located near the runway threshold. Following the impact, the seven occupants (one pilot and six passengers) sustained minor injuries. All individuals were able to exit the aircraft following the collision. The aircraft itself suffered substantial damage.
