What happened

On the morning of 30 January 2019, an Air Tindi Ltd. Beechcraft King Air 200, registered as C-GTUC, was performing an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight from Yellowknife Airport (CYZF) to Whatì Airport (CEM3) in the Northwest Territories. The aircraft was operated by a crew of two.

During the initial descent from 12,000 feet above sea level, the aircraft entered a state of uncontrolled flight. The plane struck the ground approximately 21 nautical miles east-southeast of the Whatì Airport at an elevation of 544 feet. The impact resulted in two fatalities and the total destruction of the aircraft.

Following the crash, the aircraft's 406 MHz emergency locator transmitter alerted the Canadian Mission Control Centre, which then engaged the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton, Ontario. Search and rescue teams reached the crash site roughly six hours after the occurrence.
