What happened
A Boeing 737-800 operated by Flair Airlines Ltd. was arriving at Kitchener/Waterloo Airport, Ontario, from Vancouver International Airport, British Columbia. The flight was carrying 134 passengers and 6 crew members. Upon landing, the flight crew experienced difficulties maintaining directional control. Additionally, the aircraft failed to slow down at the expected rate. As a result, the plane overran the runway end by roughly 500 feet, eventually coming to a stop in the mud. While the left engine sustained minor damage, the landing gear remained intact. There were no injuries reported among the passengers or the crew.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the sequence of events following the aircraft's touchdown, specifically examining the loss of directional control and the failure of the aircraft to decelerate as intended during the landing roll.
