What happened
On 23 November 2022, a Cessna 185 equipped with floats departed from a logging camp located in Strachan Bay, British Columbia. The aircraft was carrying one pilot and two passengers, en route to the Port Hardy Water Aerodrome.
As the aircraft began its initial climb, it reached an altitude of roughly 100 feet above sea level. During this phase of flight, the aircraft experienced a sudden nose-down pitch, leading to a collision with the water. The impact resulted in three fatalities.
The investigation
Following the accident, wreckage was located the day after the occurrence. The TSB deployed a team of investigators to the site in Strachan Bay to collect evidence and assess the circumstances surrounding the crash.
