What happened
On 25 September 2016, a Socata TB10 Tobago, registration G-HELA, was involved in a ground accident at Breighton Aerodrome in Yorkshire. The flight was being conducted as a private operation. Following a successful landing, the pilot attempted to manoeuvre the aircraft toward a grass parking area. During this taxiing phase, the right wingtip of the aircraft made contact with a wooden fence.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report submitted by the pilot. The examination of the aircraft revealed damage to the right wing, specifically affecting the aileron, the navigation light, and both the upper and lower skin surfaces of the right wing. The pilot, who held a Private Pilot’s Licence, reported that the collision occurred because he had misjudged how close the aircraft was to the fence.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was the pilot's misjudgment of the aircraft's proximity to the wooden fence during ground manoeuvres.
- There were no injuries reported following the contact.
