What happened
On September 24, 2016, a Robin DR400-120, registration F-GSBI, was involved in a ground collision at the Moret-Episy aerodrome. The aircraft, operated for personal use, had just completed a local flight consisting of three circuits. Upon landing on runway 06, the pilot noted that the braking was initially symmetrical but observed the aircraft drifting slightly to the right toward the end of the landing roll.
While taxiing toward the parking area, the pilot attempted to execute a left turn to position the aircraft parallel to a hangar. To assist with the maneuver, the pilot moved forward in the cockpit to gain better leverage on the rudder pedals. Despite applying the brakes and using the rudder, the aircraft's turning radius was wider than anticipated. During the turn, the right wingtip struck the hangar doors and subsequently hit the wall. The impact caused the aircraft to pivot to the right, leading the propeller to strike the hangar door.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the aircraft's braking performance and the pilot's maneuvers. It was noted that the aircraft had recently undergone a major inspection. The pilot had been specifically advised that because the brake pads were new, firm pressure would be required to achieve effective braking. The pilot, a private pilot with approximately 352 total flight hours, provided testimony regarding the sequence of events and the mechanical state of the brakes.
