What happened
During a cargo operation departing from Al Mukalla bound for Sharjah, a four-engine aircraft carrying 7 tons of fish experienced a mechanical failure during the takeoff roll on runway 06. As the aircraft reached a speed of 225 km/h, the nose landing gear collapsed.
In response to the failure, the pilot executed emergency braking maneuvers. To prevent a collision with a radio-technical equipment vehicle located near the runway, the pilot steered the aircraft toward the left side of the pavement. After departing the runway surface, the aircraft traveled approximately 400 metres while rolling through a sandy area. The aircraft eventually came to a stop roughly 30 metres left of the extended centerline.
Findings
- The nose gear collapse was the primary event that led to the loss of directional control.
- There were zero fatalities and zero injuries among the eight crew members on board.
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
