A cargo flight operating from Kisangani Airport toward Goma failed to reach its destination, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation. The aircraft, an Antonov AN-12, was transporting a load of minerals and was operated by a crew of 7 members at the time of its disappearance. After the flight failed to arrive, search efforts were conducted but were officially terminated one week after the initial disappearance.

In November 2012, the wreckage of the aircraft was located by a search team from the TL2 Project, directed by Dr. Terese Hart. The debris field was identified within a heavily forested area situated approximately 210 km south of Kisangani.
