What happened
During the final approach phase of a cargo flight to Katanga Airport, the aircraft experienced a total loss of power when all four engines ceased functioning at the same time. This sudden loss of thrust caused the plane to descend rapidly, leading to an impact with the ground approximately 1,45 of metres before the runway threshold.
Following the initial impact, the aircraft's landing gear collapsed. The plane continued to slide across the terrain for roughly 640 metres, during which it collided with the inner marker and a brick residence. The force of the sequence caused the airframe to break into two separate pieces. The accident resulted in one fatality and 15 injuries among the occupants of the aircraft type.
Findings
- The primary factor in the loss of altitude was the simultaneous failure of all four engines during the approach to the airport.
