A cargo flight transporting food from Yakutsk to Olenyok resulted in a crash landing following a dual engine failure.

What happened

A twin-engine cargo aircraft departed from Yakutsk Airport, destined for Olenyok, while carrying 6.3 tons of food supplies. During the flight, the aircraft experienced a simultaneous failure of both engines. In response to the loss of power, the crew initiated a descent to lower their altitude and sought an area for an emergency landing.

The aircraft eventually impacted a forested region situated approximately 70 km from Olenyok. While the plane sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, all seven crew members were able to exit the cabin following the impact. Among the group, three individuals sustained minor injuries during the evacuation or crash sequence.

Findings

Investigations into the incident indicate that the primary reason for the dual engine failure was fuel exhaustion.

Probable cause
