What happened
On 19 December 2019, shortly after midday, a Cessna P210N Silver Eagle, registered N210BA, was conducting a flight from Bankstown, New South Wales, to Cambridge, Tasmania. While cruising at Flight Level 160, approximately 22 km south-south-east of Moruya Airport, the aircraft suffered a complete loss of engine power.
The pilot attempted a glide approach toward Moruya Airport to manage the emergency. However, the aircraft struck the ground 560 m north of the runway 18 threshold. The impact resulted in two injuries to the occupants on board.
The investigation
The investigation focused on determining the origin of the engine failure and evaluating the operational circumstances surrounding the descent. Investigators examined the aircraft's mechanical condition and reviewed the sequence of events leading to the power loss. The analysis considered both the primary reason for the engine failure and various operational factors that influenced the outcome of the flight.
