What happened
A twin-engine airplane was operating a charter service from Reynosa to Monterrey at night when it crashed approximately 6.5 km before reaching the runway. The aircraft was carrying a total of six people, including two crew members and four passengers. During the final approach phase, the flight struck trees before impact. The wreckage of the aircraft was located by search teams roughly 10 hours after the incident occurred.
The accident resulted in four fatalities, including both pilots and two of the passengers. Two additional passengers sustained serious injuries during the crash.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified that the crew did not properly prepare for the flight and neglected to utilize the required approach checklist. A critical factor in the descent was an incorrect altimeter setting, which led the pilots to fly at an altitude significantly lower than necessary. The lack of visibility during the nighttime approach also served as a contributing element to the collision with the trees.
