What happened
On a night-time on-demand taxi flight traveling from Bergen to Dagali, a twin engine aircraft encountered challenging meteorological conditions. As the flight approached its destination, the crew navigated through poor weather characterized by low visibility and cloud ceilings reaching as low as 1,200 feet. During the final approach phase, the aircraft struck hilly and snow-covered terrain approximately 5 km before reaching runway 26.
The accident involved a total of ten people on board, consisting of two pilots and eight passengers. The impact resulted in three fatalities, including both pilots and one passenger. The remaining seven occupants sustained injuries during the crash.
Findings
Investigations into the accident indicate that the crew did not recognize that the aircraft had descended to an insufficient altitude during the approach. The primary contributing factor was the failure to maintain safe altitude while operating in low-visibility conditions.
