What happened
During the final approach to Huambo-Albano Machado Airport, the flight crew identified a vehicle positioned on the runway. Rather than executing a go-around to clear the obstruction, the crew proceeded with the landing. The aircraft crossed the threshold of the runway, but the surface was wet, which hindered braking effectiveness. Because the landing occurred too far down the runway, the aircraft could not come to a halt before the end of the pavement. This resulted in the aircraft overrunning the runway and striking a concrete wall.
Findings
- The aircraft was operating on a wet runway surface during the landing phase.
- The crew failed to initiate a go-around despite the presence of a vehicle on the runway.
- The runway overrun was caused by the aircraft's position on the runway being too far down the strip to allow for a safe stop.
- There were no injuries among the 10 occupants on board.
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
