What happened
On the morning of August 12, 2000, a Beechcraft B200, registration N3199A, was conducting a private flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Spanish Cay, Bahamas. The flight, operated by Great Texas Food Inc. under Part 91 regulations, departed Florida at approximately 10:30 EDT.
During the landing phase at Spanish Cay, the pilot reported that the touchdown itself was routine. However, as the pilot attempted to decelerate by applying the brakes, the left brake failed to function. This mechanical failure caused the pilot to lose directional control of the aircraft. The plane veered off the right side of the runway and struck a berm. The impact resulted in the collapse of the right landing gear and caused substantial damage to the front fuselage and the left wing.
Findings
- The primary factor in the excursion was the failure of the left brake to respond during the landing roll.
- There were 0 fatalities and 0 injuries among the pilot and the two passengers on board.
- Weather conditions were within visual meteorological limits at the time of the incident.
