What happened
On August 27, 1992, a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, registration VT-EOA, was performing local flight maneuvers consisting of circuits and landings at IGI Airport in Delhi. The aircraft was operated by the Border Security Force and initially carried two crew members. Following two completed circuits and landings, the commander requested a full stop.
After the aircraft had landed, the commander requested permission from Air Traffic Control (ATC) to perform an additional circuit. The controller granted this request and instructed the aircraft to line up on runway 28 for departure. During this interval, the co-pilot exited the aircraft.
Upon departure, the aircraft took off without receiving formal clearance from ATC and initiated a left turn to begin the circuit. During this maneuver, the aircraft entered a nose-down attitude and struck the ground. The impact caused a fire that completely destroyed the airframe. The pilot, who was the only person remaining on board at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries.
Findings
- The aircraft departed the runway without receiving takeoff clearance from ATC.
- The flight crew proceeded with an additional circuit after the co-pilot had disembarked.
