What happened
Shortly after departing from Port Angeles-Callam County Airport, a twin engine aircraft experienced significant issues maintaining altitude. During the initial climb phase, the plane struggled to gain sufficient height before entering a stall. The subsequent impact with the ground led to a post-crash fire that consumed the wreckage.
All 10 fatalities occurred during the accident, as there were no survivors among the occupants. The force of the crash and the resulting flames left the aircraft completely destroyed.
Findings
Investigations into the incident highlighted several critical observations regarding the flight's final moments. While the exact origin of the mechanical or operational issues remains unconfirmed, investigators noted that the aircraft underwent a premature liftoff. Additionally, the elevator trim was found to be in a full nose-down position at the time of the event.
Despite these complications, the weight and balance of the plane were confirmed to be within the required operational limits. Due to the nature of the crash, it was impossible to determine which member of the crew was actively operating the controls when the stall occurred.
