What happened
A twin-engine aircraft departed from Hradec Králové, performing an executive flight destined for Kyiv. The flight was carrying one pilot and four passengers. During the final approach phase to Kyiv-Zhuliany Airport, the aircraft encountered weather conditions that fell below established visibility minimums, characterized by low cloud cover that reduced vertical visibility to 100 feet and horizontal visibility to 900 metres.
While on short final, the aircraft was traveling at a speed of 220 knots when it descended too low and at an excessive rate. The aircraft struck the ground in a wasteland area situated 2,590 metres before the threshold of runway 08 and 48 metres to the right of the extended centerline. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were five fatalities among the occupants.
Findings
Investigation by Czech authorities indicated that the pilot attempted the approach despite visibility being below required minimums. The primary factor in the accident was the excessive rate of descent and low altitude during the final approach phase.
