What happened
While performing the takeoff roll at New Cumberland Airport, the pilot encountered technical difficulties involving the left engine. In response to these mechanical issues, the pilot initiated an aborted takeoff. However, the aircraft was unable to come to a complete stop before reaching the end of the runway. The plane subsequently overran the paved surface and collided with a vehicle that was traveling on a nearby road.
The incident resulted in one injury sustained by the pilot, who suffered minor injuries during the crash. No individuals on the ground were harmed during the collision with the moving vehicle.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary cause was an engine failure or malfunction occurring during the takeoff phase. Specifically, the failure originated within the left engine's supercharger system. The mechanical breakdown was attributed to a failure in the blower and impeller assembly.
Technical analysis identified several contributing elements to the total loss of power, including:
- A failure of the rear bearing
- Material failure within the engine components
- Complete loss of function in the left engine
