What happened
During a nighttime flight conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), an aircraft crashed into a wooded area in the vicinity of Troy. While the plane was in the cruise phase of flight, the pilot's focus shifted away from necessary flight operations. As a result of this distraction, the pilot did not recognize that the aircraft had descended to an insufficient altitude. The plane subsequently collided with trees, leading to the total destruction of the airframe. There was only one person on board, and the pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
Findings
Investigations into the crash identified several contributing elements that led to the impact. The primary factor was a collision with trees during cruise flight caused by the pilot's attention being diverted from the controls. Additional findings noted that the pilot misjudged the altitude of the aircraft and continued to operate under VFR despite encountering adverse weather conditions. Furthermore, the presence of dense fog in the area and careless operation of the aircraft were cited as contributing factors to the accident.
