What happened
On the morning of February 2, 2005, a Bombardier Challenger CL-600-1A11, registration N370V, was involved in a significant ground accident at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. The aircraft, which was operating as an on-demand passenger charter from Teterboro to Chicago Midway Airport, exited the departure end of runway 6 while traveling at approximately 110 knots.
Following the runway excursion, the aircraft breached the airport's perimeter fencing and crossed a six-lane highway. During this transit, the plane struck a vehicle on the roadway. The sequence of events concluded when the aircraft entered a parking lot and collided with a building. The impact and subsequent fire resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft.
There were a total of 12 injuries recorded during the event. The two pilots sustained serious injuries, as did the two individuals inside the struck vehicle. Additionally, the cabin aide, eight passengers, and one person located inside the building suffered minor injuries.
Findings
The accident occurred under visual meteorological conditions while the flight was operating under instrument flight rules. The aircraft was being operated by Platinum Jet Management, LLC, under a charter management agreement with Darby Aviation.
