What happened
Shortly after departing from Itaituba Airport, the flight crew received notification regarding the meteorological conditions at their intended destination. The report indicated a ground-level ceiling and visibility restricted to less than 300 meters, signifying that the weather had fallen below established landing minimums.
Upon reaching the destination area, the crew attempted to locate the airfield but could not establish visual contact with the runway due to the low visibility. In an effort to wait for the weather to clear, the crew began circling the airport vicinity. During this period, the single-engine aircraft impacted the ground near the airport. The accident resulted in two fatalities, as both the pilot and the co-pilot were killed in the crash.
Findings
- The aircraft was operating in weather conditions that were below the required minimums for landing.
- Low visibility and a ground-level ceiling prevented the crew from maintaining visual contact with the airport infrastructure.
