What happened
On the morning of the accident, a single-engine aircraft departed from Lensk at 08:13 local time, bound for Bratsk. During the cruise phase of the flight, while the aircraft was operating at an altitude of 4,200 metres above the cloud layer, the engine experienced a failure.
Following the loss of power, the crew initiated an emergency diversion toward Kirensk Airport. However, the aircraft was unable to sustain a sufficient altitude to complete the approach. In an attempt to perform an emergency landing, the pilot maneuvered the aircraft toward the ground, but the plane struck trees and came to rest in a forested region situated approximately 37 km west of Kirensk.
