What happened
On a flight departing from Pukatawagan, Manitoba, toward The Pas/Grace Lake Airport, a Cessna 208B operated by Missinippi Management Ltd (Missinippi Airways) experienced a runway excursion. During the takeoff roll on Runway 33 at approximately 1610 Central Daylight Time, the aircraft failed to reach sufficient lift to become airborne. In response, the pilot initiated a rejected takeoff procedure.
While attempting to stop the aircraft using braking and reverse propeller thrust, the plane overran the end of the runway. The aircraft subsequently traveled down an embankment and into a ravine, where a fire broke out following the impact. The accident resulted in one fatality among the passengers. The pilot and the remaining seven passengers were able to exit the wreckage and sustained only minor injuries. The aircraft, registered as C-FMCB, was completely destroyed in the event. Notably, the aircraft's emergency locator transmitter failed to trigger during the accident.
Findings
- The aircraft failed to achieve flight during the initial takeoff phase.
- The aircraft overran the runway boundaries despite the application of reverse thrust and braking.
