What happened
During a flight from Juba to Yambio in South Sudan, an aircraft carrying nine passengers and two crew members experienced a runway excursion. The flight proceeded normally until the aircraft touched down on runway 03. Approximately twenty meters past the runway threshold, the aircraft began a steady veer toward the left side of the runway.
Despite the captain attempting to intervene and applying full right rudder to correct the trajectory, the aircraft could not be stabilized. The left main gear struck a trench while the aircraft was traveling at high speed, causing the plane to flip over. The aircraft eventually came to rest in an inverted position approximately 200 meters from the runway threshold. Following the impact, a small fire ignited in the engine compartment, which the captain extinguished using a portable fire extinguisher.
Findings
All occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft. While most passengers exited the wreckage independently, two passengers required assistance from the captain to disembark. The incident resulted in one injury to the pilot flying, who sustained a foot injury, and several passengers who suffered minor injuries. At the time of the accident, weather conditions were reported as CAVOK with calm north-easterly winds.
