What happened
On the afternoon of September 29, 2000, a Cessna 340, registered N130DR, was involved in a fatal-impact accident during a ferry flight. The aircraft, operated by Benchmark Aviation, had departed from Magenta Airport in New Caledonia earlier that day. While attempting to land at Nadi International Airport in the Republic of Fiji, the plane struck the surface of Nadi Bay. The impact occurred approximately 1,500 feet before reaching the threshold of runway 09.
At the time of the accident, the aircraft was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 regulations. The flight was conducted under visual meteorological conditions. The aircraft was occupied by a single person, a commercial pilot from the United States, who survived the crash with minor injuries. The aircraft was completely destroyed upon hitting the water.
