What happened
During an approach into the traffic pattern at Waukesha Airport, two aircraft collided at an altitude of approximately 800 feet. The incident involved a Cessna 402 and a Cessna 150, identified by registration N6175G.
Following the impact, both planes descended rapidly into a nearby field, where they caught fire upon hitting the ground. There were two occupants on board the N6175G and one occupant in the other aircraft, totaling three fatalities.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the collision occurred at a 45-degree horizontal angle. The primary factor was that both pilots failed to see and avoid each other while descending toward the uncontrolled airfield. Additionally, neither aircraft was being monitored via radar contact at the time of the event.
