What happened
During a scheduled charter flight traveling from Mombasa toward Nairobi, the crew encountered heavy fog. While the twin engine aircraft was maintaining a cruise altitude that proved insufficient for the prevailing weather conditions, it collided with Malwa Hill, situated in the vicinity of Machakos.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were nine fatalities recorded among the occupants of the flight. The passenger manifest included eight European tourists, specifically consisting of four individuals from Italy, two from France, and two from Switzerland, alongside the crew members.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor was controlled flight into terrain occurring while the aircraft was operating in low-visibility foggy conditions.
