What happened
A twin-engine aircraft departed from Juradó Airport at 16:53 local time, operating as a VFR charter service destined for Medellín. The flight was carrying a total of ten people, consisting of two pilots and eight passengers. During the journey, deteriorating weather conditions forced the crew to transition from visual flight rules to instrument flight rules.
While the aircraft was maintaining an altitude of 10,675 feet and traveling at a speed of 176 knots on a heading of 107 degrees, it struck trees. The impact occurred in a heavily forested region on the slope of Mt Aná-La Virgen, situated approximately 15 km east of Urrao. The wreckage was located by searchers the next day. The impact forces were sufficient to destroy the twin engine airplane, and there were 10 fatalities among the occupants.
Findings
- The flight was forced to switch to IFR procedures due to worsening weather conditions during the en route phase.
