What happened
A charter flight operating from Salzburg Airport toward Olbia, Sardinia, crashed while navigating through restricted visibility. The aircraft, a twin engine airplane, was transporting seven passengers alongside two crew members. The passengers, consisting of Austrian and German nationals, were traveling to participate in a golf event.
During the cruise phase of the flight, the aircraft collided with a mountain slope situated approximately 5 km north of Ellmau. The debris field was located in the vicinity of the Gruttenhütte refuge. There were nine fatalities recorded, as all occupants on board perished in the accident.
Findings
Investigators have identified controlled flight into terrain as the suspected primary factor leading to the collision with the mountain slope.
