What happened
A charter flight departing from Bogotá-El Dorado Airport was en route to Villavicencio-La Vanguardia Airport when the accident occurred. The aircraft, a twin engine airplane, was operating under challenging meteorological conditions characterized by heavy rain and low cloud cover.
During the cruise phase of the flight, the pilot notified air traffic control that the left engine had ceased functioning. Following this mechanical failure, the crew was unable to preserve sufficient altitude for continued flight. The aircraft subsequently descended into the terrain, impacting a mountain slope in the vicinity of Quetame.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were six fatalities recorded, representing all occupants on board, including the pilot and five passengers.
Findings
Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor was the failure of the left engine while the aircraft was in flight. The specific underlying reason for this mechanical malfunction remains undetermined.
