What happened
During the final approach phase of flight toward Winkler County Airport, a twin engine airplane experienced an aerodynamic stall. The loss of lift caused the aircraft to descend rapidly and impact the ground, which subsequently triggered a post-crash fire.
There were two occupants on board at the time of the accident. Both individuals managed to exit the wreckage before the fire spread, and they sustained only minor injuries. While the crew escaped the incident, the aircraft itself suffered damage that was classified as beyond repair.
Findings
Investigations into the crash identified that the primary reason for the accident was a stall occurring during the approach. This was triggered by the pilot's failure to preserve sufficient flying speed throughout the descent.
Several environmental factors contributed to the instability of the aircraft, including:
- Significant wind gusts reaching up to 18 knots
- Presence of unfavorable wind conditions
- Fluctuating air currents consisting of both updrafts and downdrafts
