Fatal aircraft accident at Lyon-Bron Airport

4 fatalities • Lyon-Bron, France • Takeoff (climb)

A twin-engine aircraft crashed during its initial climb from Lyon-Bron Airport, resulting in the deaths of all four people on board.

What happened

During the takeoff roll from runway 34 at Lyon-Brion Airport, a twin engine airplane began its ascent. While the aircraft was at an altitude of approximately 200 feet during the initial climb phase, it experienced a significant deviation to the left. The aircraft entered a left roll and began veering toward the left side of the flight path while maintaining a low rate of climb.

Shortly after the aircraft cleared the end of the runway, it lost sufficient altitude and impacted the ground. The impact was followed by a post-crash fire that completely destroyed the airframe. There were four fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft.

Findings

Investigations into the incident noted an unusual cockpit configuration, as the pilot-in-command was positioned in the right-hand seat for reasons that remain undetermined. The aircraft's flight path was characterized by a loss of altitude and a lateral deviation immediately following takeoff.
