What happened
During the final stages of an approach, the pilot identified that the aircraft's descent rate had become excessive. In response to this unstable approach, the pilot decided to execute a go-around procedure.
As the crew applied engine power and began the process of retracting the landing gear, the left wing lost lift and made contact with the runway surface. This impact triggered a ground loop, causing the aircraft to spin on the pavement.
Following the sequence of events, the aircraft sustained substantial damage and was ultimately declared a total loss. The pilot was able to exit the wreckage without any injuries.
Findings
- The incident was initiated by an unacceptable sink rate during the short final approach phase.
- The loss of control occurred specifically during the transition to a climb following the application of power and gear retraction.
