What happened
During an approach to Hanover-Langenhagen Airport, the pilot attempted to land amidst significantly reduced visibility caused by fog. The visibility at the time of the incident was measured at 400 metres. After failing to identify the runway, the pilot began a go-around maneuver. During this phase of flight, the aircraft lost altitude and struck the ground approximately 200 metres before reaching runway 27R.
Findings
- The aircraft was destroyed upon impact.
- There were seven fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft.
- Dense fog prevented the crew from locating the runway, leading to the decision to abort the landing.
