What happened
A positioning flight traveling from Figari-Sud-Corse Airport to Saint-Tropez-La Môle Airport resulted in an aircraft accident during the landing phase. The flight was operated with one pilot and one passenger on board. Upon arrival, the destination weather was characterized by rain and a low ceiling of 1,800 feet. After receiving clearance from Nice Approach to descend to 6,000 feet, the pilot attempted an approach to Runway 24.
During the initial approach, the pilot could not visually identify the runway and performed a go-around. A second approach was subsequently attempted. The aircraft touched down 200 meters beyond the runway threshold while traveling at a speed of 136 knots. Despite the deployment of spoilers, the aircraft could not decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. The aircraft veered toward the left, exited the runway, crossed a river, and eventually stopped against an embankment approximately 100 meters past the runway end. The accident resulted in one injury to the passenger, while the pilot remained unhurt. The aircraft was determined to be a total loss.
Findings
- The landing occurred at a high speed of 136 knots.
- Inadequate stopping distance prevented the aircraft from remaining on the runway.
- Adverse weather conditions, including rain and low visibility, were present at the time of the incident.
