What happened
During a flight originating from Salzburg, the flight crew was instructed to descend toward Vienna-Schwechat Airport. As the aircraft prepared for its arrival on runway 34, the crew performed standard procedures and attempted to deploy the landing gear. During this process, the pilot observed that the left main landing gear had failed to extend from the wheel well, noted by the absence of a green indication on the cockpit instrument panel.
Despite this mechanical issue, the crew decided to proceed with the landing. Upon making contact with runway 34, the aircraft began to drift toward the left side of the runway. The plane eventually veered off the paved surface and came to a stop in a grassy area situated between taxiway D and taxiways B5 and B6. While the aircraft sustained damage beyond repair, all five occupants were able to evacuate the wreckage without any fatalities or injuries.
Findings
- The left main landing gear remained retracted in the wheel well during the approach.
- A failure in the landing gear indication system prevented the green light from illuminating in the cockpit.
- The aircraft's path deviated from the runway centerline following touchdown, leading to the excursion into the grass.
