What happened
During the final approach to Walker's Cay Airfield, the aircraft descended below the required altitude and made contact with the ground a short distance before reaching the runway threshold. Following this impact, the aircraft became unstable and began a rightward roll. During this maneuver, the right wing struck a tree, resulting in the wing being completely severed from the fuselage.
The aircraft continued to roll for approximately 100 metres before finally coming to a stop. Upon reaching its final position, the wreckage ignited, resulting in a post-crash fire. The incident resulted in five injuries among the occupants, and the aircraft was a total loss.
Findings
- The aircraft was flying too low during the approach phase.
