Flight Details
On 13 November 2025, a Beechcraft C-90 GTI, registered as HK5118, operated its second flight of the day as an air ambulance from Guillermo León Valencia Airport (SKPP) in Popayán to El Dorado International Airport (SKBO) in Bogotá D.C. The aircraft carried six occupants and landed on runway 14L at 19:47 local time.
Incident Sequence
After landing, the air traffic controller in the North Tower instructed the Beechcraft crew to exit the runway via taxiway Alpha 8. However, the aircraft overshot the designated turnoff point and continued rolling approximately 100 meters beyond it. Realizing the error, the crew executed a 180-degree left turn on the runway without consulting or informing the tower, and began taxiing in the opposite direction.
Meanwhile, the controller had cleared an Airbus A320, registration HK5319, for takeoff. The A320 initiated its takeoff roll and only became aware of the Beechcraft on the runway when it had already reached high speed. As the C-90 vacated the runway via taxiway Alpha 8, the A320 passed laterally at an altitude of less than 100 feet in a climb attitude.
Investigation
The preliminary investigation, conducted by the Colombian civil aviation authority, confirmed no injuries or damage to either aircraft. Pending tasks include full analysis of the aircraft and operator documentation, recordings of the North Tower frequency, and data from the flight data recorder.
