What happened
On a scheduled charter service traveling from Pontiac to Tampa, a twin engine airplane encountered challenging weather conditions while flying over Tennessee. During the transit, the aircraft descended to an insufficient altitude and struck trees within a forested region near Walden Ridge, located west of Spring City.
There were six fatalities resulting from the impact, as all occupants on board the aircraft perished in the accident. The group included two pilots and four passengers.
Findings
Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor was controlled flight into terrain. The descent of the aircraft into the wooded area occurred while the crew maintained control of the plane, but at an altitude that was too low to clear the local topography.
