What happened
On a recent flight departing from Long Haul Lake, Manitoba, a Blue Water Aviation Services seaplane experienced a critical mechanical failure during the initial climb. At approximately 1320 central daylight savings time, the aircraft's engine suffered an abrupt loss of power.
Following the loss of propulsion, the pilot attempted to perform restart procedures to restore engine functionality; however, these efforts failed to stabilize the aircraft. Consequently, the plane descended into a dense area of trees, where it ultimately struck the ground. The impact was severe enough to result in the total destruction of the aircraft.
Injuries
- The aviation maintenance engineer on board sustained fatal injuries.
- The pilot suffered serious injuries during the crash.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was the sudden loss of engine power immediately following departure.
