What happened
On the morning of September 28, 2002, a de Havilland DHC-3 Otter, registered as C-FLGA, departed from Lake de l'Avion, Quebec. The aircraft, operated by Deraps Aviation Inc., was traveling toward a hunting camp located roughly 57 miles north along the Aguanish River. The flight was carrying a total of four people, including the pilot and three passengers.
At approximately 11:35 EDT, as the aircraft approached its destination, it flew over a section of the adjacent forest. During this phase of flight, the plane struck the ground and flipped over on rugged terrain. The impact resulted in three fatalities among the passengers. The pilot survived the crash and was later rescued by Canadian Forces Search and Rescue teams, arriving in Sept-Îles early the following morning.
