What happened
While operating a flight from Wheelus AFB in Tripoli toward RAF Alconbury in Cambridgeshire, the aircraft experienced a double engine failure during the en route phase of flight. Due to the loss of power from both engines, the crew was forced to deviate from their original flight path to seek an immediate diversion.
The crew successfully navigated the aircraft to RAF Krendi for an emergency landing. During the arrival, the plane performed a belly landing on the runway. While the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, there were no injuries reported among those on board.
Findings
Investigations into the incident concluded that the primary factor leading to the emergency was the simultaneous failure of both engines while the aircraft was in flight.
