What happened
During the final approach phase to Stavanger-Sola Airport, a mid-air collision occurred between two aircraft. A Douglas Dakota was on its descent toward the runway when it was struck by a Republic F-84 Thunderjet, which was operated by the Royal Norwegian Air Force and carried the registration FN-C.
Following the impact, both aircraft fell from the sky, crashing approximately 1,500 meters before reaching the runway threshold. The force of the collision and the subsequent impact with the ground caused the total destruction of both airframes. There were no survivors of the accident; all 11 fatalities occurred across the occupants of both planes.
