What happened
During an attempt to land at a remote location in Port Mayacy, an aircraft was performing circling maneuvers when it lost altitude. The plane impacted trees before crashing, which resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. Both the pilot and the co-pilot were killed in the accident. At the time of the crash, the aircraft was transporting 2.2 tons of marijuana.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified several critical factors that led to the loss of control. The primary cause was a collision with trees during the traffic pattern, which was precipitated by the mismanagement of fuel supplies. Specific technical findings included:
- A complete failure of both engines
- Fuel starvation occurring during flight
- An absence of fuel within the right engine's fuel system
- The necessity of a forced landing on land away from an airport
Additionally, investigators noted that the operation was being conducted by an unqualified individual whose experience and ability levels were insufficient for the flight. It was also noted that the aircraft was engaged in a narcotics contraband flight at the time of the incident.
